Rising Damp

Rising Damp

Have you noticed paint on the walls near the floor bubbling or blistering?

Maybe a white salty looking dust on your hands after wiping it away? These are signs of rising damp. This is where water rises and naturally finds a point where it evaporates. This leaves behind the salts collected from the cement products the water passed through.

What are the causes of damp in a house?

Damp and mould are caused by excess moisture. Moisture in buildings can be caused by leaking pipes, waterproofing failing in the showers, rising damp in basements or ground floors, or rain seeping in because of damage to the roof or around window frames. In a newly-built home damp can occur if the water used when the house was built is still drying out.

Is damp covered by insurance?

Damp and condensation can damage walls, plaster, decorations, and cause wood rot within wooden areas of your property. Most conventional buildings and contents home insurance policies do not cover for damage caused by damp and condensation.

Is damp bad for your health?

Exposure to damp and mouldy environments may cause a variety of health effects, or none at all. … For these people, moulds can cause nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation, or, in some cases, skin irritation. People with mould allergies may have more severe reactions.

Steps we take to provide a permanent solution for Rising Damp.

Our fully qualified specialists will carry out a full survey on your premises to diagnose the cause of the damp problem. If rising damp is the problem then…

The extent of rising damp will be identified with electronic moisture meters. Wall coverings, render/plaster etc. will be removed to expose masonry or brick work.

A new water proofing system will be installed to create a new proof course. Whitesands offers 2 different systems to combat rising damp – Chemical injection and Lectros. Our technician will determine which system is best suited to the conditions.. It is not necessary to evacuate the premises either during or after installation.

All rubbish and waste material will be removed. Render and/or plaster can then be reinstated leaving your repaired wall area ready for redecoration. The modern systems and materials we use are the best available in the prevention of rising damp. Our procedures are reliable and proven to succeed, as well as being safe, odourless and non toxic.

Whitesands Bathroom Renovations are experts at repairing this problem and preventing it from reoccurring.  We inject a unique silicone emulsion through a drilled hole using specially designed pumps to create a new damp course.  The anti-damp chemical used is environmentally friendly.
